County Offices

Your N.C. Forest Service county ranger is the key contact for programs and services we offer in your county. Would you like to have a forest management plan prepared for your property? Regional and District Offices

The N.C. Forest Service has three regional offices and 13 district offices located throughout the state. The employees at these offices provide supervision and staff support to your NCFS county ranger. If you would like to contact one of these offices, please look at the list below to determine which office serves your area. The NCFS Region One office is located in Kinston and provides support for four N.C. Forest Service districts.

  • District 4: serving Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico and Pitt counties
  • District 7: serving Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Martin, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties
  • District 8: serving Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover and Pender counties
  • District 13: serving Dare, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties

The NCFS Region Two office is located in Chapel Hill and provides support for five N.C. Forest Service districts.

  • District 3: serving Anson, Chatham, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Scotland and Stanly counties
  • District 5: serving Edgecombe, Franklin, Greene, Halifax, Nash, Northampton, Wayne, Warren and Wilson counties
  • District 6: serving Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Robeson and Sampson counties
  • District 10: serving Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties
  • District 11: serving Alamance, Caswell, Durham, Granville, Orange, Person, Vance and Wake counties

State Forests

The agency manages and operates several forests throughout the state. Seven are designated as educational state forests (ESFs) and offer a variety of learning opportunities for children and adults.

Tree Nurseries

The agency manages and operates a container nursery in Goldsboro. Seedlings are available for sale to nonindustrial private landowners, corporate landowners, as well as state and federal agencies. Linville River Nursery produces Fraser fir seedlings for the Christmas tree industry as well as eastern white pine and other montane conifer species for use in western North Carolina. Seedlings can also be ordered in the online seedling store.

Training Facilities

The agency manages and operates three training facilities; the Mountain Training Facility in Crossnore, the Stan Adams Training Facility in Chatham County and the Ralph Winkworth Forestry Center in Kinston. Two locations offer overnight accommodations, dining services and classroom environments with internet access and multimedia capabilities. The campuses are available for use by state agencies and other institutions or organizations at reasonable rates. Young Offenders Forest Conservation Program (BRIDGE)

The N.C. Forest Service and the N.C. Department of of Adult Correction collaborate on the Young Offenders Forest Conservation Program (BRIDGE) to utilize and train the available offender population. The program has proven itself to be a success in supplying trained firefighters, rehabilitating offenders and saving North Carolina taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. BRIDGE stands for Building, Rehabilitating, Instructing, Developing, Growing and Employing.
