The 2021 N.C. Mountain State Fair is gearing up for its most anticipated run ever, and fairgoers will find new grounds entertainment mixed in with all the favorites that they have waited to see.
The N.C. Pesticide Board recently approved the following settlement agreements for cases in Craven, Forsyth, Guilford, Johnston, Person, Pitt, Rowan, Surry and Wake counties. Settlements involved cases of pesticide drift damage and improper purchasing, selling, disposal and application of pesticides. Settlements are listed by county below:

Oct. 21Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler announced today that Smithfield Foods, Inc. will be the corporate partner for Hunger Relief Day at the 2021 N.C. State Fair. The popular event allows fairgoers to gain free admission to the Fair by donating canned food items.
The N.C. Forest Service, the N.C. Urban Forest Council and N.C. Cooperative Extension are hosting a series of daylong workshops for municipalities and communities across eastern North Carolina. The workshops are part of a planning and implementation process to help communities reduce storm damage, conserve the benefits provided by trees and ensure an efficient and effective response and recovery from tree-damaging storm events.
For the first time in almost four decades, African swine fever has been detected in the Americas. This is a concerning development, but one for which the commercial pork industry is well prepared. Biosecurity has long been a major focus of commercial hog production and biosecurity procedures have remained high since African swine fever was first detected in China in 2019.

WHO/WHAT:The N.C. Industrial Hemp Commission will hold a public meeting for an update on the future direction of the N.C. hemp program. 
 Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler recently promoted Dr. Michael P. Martin to serve as State Veterinarian. Martin previously served as Poultry Section Head for the Veterinary Division since 2012. In that role he had oversight of all poultry programs operations within the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Martin replaces Dr. Doug Meckes, who retires at the end of this month.
