RALEIGH – To celebrate the bounty of local produce and N.C. food products, the State Farmers Market is hosting its fun-filled Summer Fest July 11 complete with kids’ activities, grilling demonstrations, plus free samples for guests.This time of year, the variety of N.C. produce is as colorful as confetti, and visitors can come enjoy free watermelon slices, free peach samples, free tomato sandwiches and free corn recipe cards from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division has collected fines from nine stores in Alamance, Forsyth, Hertford, Mecklenburg, Moore, Wake and Union counties for price scanning errors. “July and August are busy travel months in our state and as you pick up your sunscreen and other vacation necessities be sure to check to see that the price at the register matches the price on the shelf,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Overcharges cost consumers, so we remain vigilant in inspecting stores to save people money.”

RALEIGH – The N.C. Forest Service will begin accepting orders Monday, July 1, for its annual tree seedling sale. With an average annual production of 16 million seedlings, the NCFS Nursery Program produces enough native and genetically improved tree seedlings to plant roughly 30,000 acres of land, equivalent to nearly 23,000 football fields, each year.

RALEIGH – Large animal veterinarians in North Carolina are eligible to apply for up to $25,000 in funds to help support their large animal practice. This $125,000 fund was created by the N.C. General Assembly in 2023 and will be administered by the N.C. Ag Finance Authority. The funding opportunity is available to veterinarians who practice in one of the 70 North Carolina counties with a population of 100,000 or fewer and that spend 30% or more of their patient care involved in large animal veterinary care.
