Mountain Island Educational State Forest offers open picnic sites with tables as well as a spacious shelter with plenty of seating. Reservations are required for the shelter.

Mountain Island ESF also offers a single-use trail system featuring four trails. Visitors can find trail lengths that range from a quarter-mile to a little more than a mile. Please note that while in the forest dogs must be on a leash and under direct control of an owner at all times. They must bear a collar displaying a valid rabies tag and owners must carry materials to remove waste. Bicycles and other vehicles are not permitted on forest trails. When using the forest's trail system, please keep to the trails.
