WHO/WHAT: The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division will hold a public hearing to hear any concerns regarding the recently proposed changes to the rules in Chapter 42 of the North Carolina Administrative Code. The proposed amendment currently being considered removes 02 NCAC 42.0201(b)4 to align the state’s required gasoline volatility specifications with those in the current version of American Society for Testing and Materials test method D4814-24a.

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division fined 14 stores in 12 counties for price scanning errors during the final quarter of 2024.“Our Standards Division remained committed to protecting consumers across the state,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Our inspectors continue to find errors among price scanners at stores in the state, and consumers should be mindful. Take time to check your receipts and notify store managers if you find an error.”
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division fined four stores in Forsyth, Mecklenburg and Moore counties for price scanning errors.“Scanner errors cost consumers money,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “With the holiday season approaching fast, our Standards Division remains vigilant in inspecting stores across the state to ensure consumers are not being taken advantage of.” 
RALEIGH – With the drop in temperatures and power outages remaining a concern in across Western North Carolina, residents are urged not to use outdoor grills, generators and heating devices indoors as the results can be deadly.

Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division has collected fines from nine stores in Alamance, Forsyth, Hertford, Mecklenburg, Moore, Wake and Union counties for price scanning errors.  “July and August are busy travel months in our state and as you pick up your sunscreen and other vacation necessities be sure to check to see that the price at the register matches the price on the shelf,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Overcharges cost consumers, so we remain vigilant in inspecting stores to save people money.”

RALEIGH — Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler today announced the promotion of Dr. Marcus Helfrich to director of the Standards Division. Helfrich previously served as program manager of the fuel quality laboratory. He replaces Steve Benjamin, who is retiring. The promotion is effective Nov. 1. 
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Standards Division has collected fines from 37 stores in 22 counties because of excessive price-scanner errors.“Our Standards Division closely watches stores to ensure that consumers are protected,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “This is an important function to make sure North Carolinians are being charged the prices they see on shelves. While our work will continue, it is important for consumers to check their receipts regularly and notify store managers if they see a discrepancy.”
