The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services honored Robert “Rob” Montague of Granville County as its 2020 Employee of the Year. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler presented the award during a virtual online meeting last week.Montague, an area ranger with the N.C. Forest Service, was honored for going above and beyond in his daily work, for personally responding to many of the emergency calls in his area and for being a valued resource in the local community. His commitment and service to the community also earned him the November Employee of the Month Award.

Two of North Carolina’s longest-serving and most respected statewide elected leaders will serve as new co-chairs of the N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness (the Coalition). N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler have agreed to lead the Coalition, which is a partnership of private and public sector leaders focused on enhanced global engagement.

Peach growers across the state will have a chance to vote to renew the industry’s assessment for commercial growers during a mail-in referendum that starts Feb. 25. The assessment provides funds for research and marketing to support the peach industry in North Carolina and is managed by the North Carolina Peach Growers’ Society.
