A five-day course that narrows in on the importance of conservation planning and an introduction to the skillsets used to create detailed and   effective conservation plans. Based on the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Process 9- Step Conservation Process, a cohort of students will walk through these important steps using real-world scenarios. This hands-on training series is designed for new District staff to learn the basics of surveying. One training will be held in each NCASWCD area (Areas 3 & 4 combined), with space limited to approximately 12 participants per area for individualized instruction. Field sessions will be from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Virtual Surveying Fundamentals (Required Pre-Course)
New District staff are invited to participate in a required virtual training designed to introduce the fundamentals of surveying. This live, interactive session will prepare participants for the in-person field training by covering basic concepts, terminology, and workflows.

Participants must complete required self-paced digital pre-course materials prior to attending the live virtual session.

November 23, 2026, 9am - 12pm

New employee orientation is a virtual meeting on the fourth Monday of every month. Each orientation is broken into 2 parts:

District, Division, & Partnership Overview: Same content monthly from 9- 10:30 am

Interactive Training Segments: Varying content month to month from 10:30 am- 12:00 pm

New employees should attend a part 1 and part 2 training, but may register and attend as many as they would like.
