The application period for ag producers/landowners to apply for assistance through the USDA Disaster Block Grant Relief Program for losses related to Hurricane Helene is open until May 15, 2026.  The Block Grant Program is being administered through 4 separate category-specific applications.

  • Farm Structures, Roads, Bridges, and Culverts
  • Future Economic Loss
  • Market Loss
  • Forestry Loss (application period not yet open)

For the Division and Districts, our focus is on the Farm Structures, Roads, Bridges, and Culverts category.  NCDA&CS staff will provide training and answer questions regarding helping farmers/ag landowners to apply for assistance for covered losses and damages.  Affected entities can apply for damages that have been repaired as well as those that have not been repaired.

Also note that, although the Block Grant does not cover damages to ponds, streambanks, and cropland, affected entities can also indicate on their application the need for assistance for these impacts under the State Agricultural Disaster Crop Loss Program.

Please tune in to this session to learn more about how the program will work and how to help eligible producers/landowners submit their requests for assistance with covered losses.  We’ll also discuss how the federal block grant program is being used to complement the State Disaster Crop Loss Program to provide more comprehensive response to ag infrastructure impacts.

The Division will provide additional training in May to help prepare partnership staff to assist applicants to complete and document repairs to receive compensation.
