The N.C. Specialty Foods Association recently announced winners of its 2021 product competition during the final virtual Summer of Success event.There was a total of 147 entries in this year’s competition across nine categories. Anna’s Gourmet Goodies  of Wake Forest was named Grand Champion for its BIG Chocolate Brownie.The complete list of winners by category includes:

Organic growers in North Carolina can apply for partial reimbursement of the cost of becoming certified or for recertification through a program offered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Growers who are certified or recertified between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021, can apply for assistance through the program. 

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has announced the following 2021-22 Got to Be NC Team of Culinary Ambassadors, representing restaurants across the state.

A limited number of spaces are still available to attend the upcoming N.C. Agritourism Networking Association’s Summer Farm Tour Aug. 30. To attend, interested farmers should register as soon as possible online at https://nc-ana.org/product/summer-farm-tour-registration-2021. The cost for NC-ANA members is $109 per person or $209 per person for non-members.

Fall offers great opportunities to explore agritourism activities on farms and across North Carolina. Visitors will find plenty of outdoor experiences from tours, u-pick fruit, crop mazes and pumpkin patches, farm stands, farmers markets, festivals and local foods. The following is a sample of agritourism opportunities offered at North Carolina farms this fall.

Thirteen elementary school students’ art pieces have been chosen for the North Carolina Farm to School 2021-2022 calendar. This marks the 11th year for the popular contest.

The following is a sample of experiences offered at North Carolina farms this summer. 

Farms are offering tours, u-pick for flowers and fruit, farm stands and special events for late spring. 

N.C. Dairy Advantage and the N.C. Dairy Producers Association are partnering with Deal Rite Feeds in creating a N.C. Cheese Ministry program, with plans to make its first donation Wednesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Store House for Jesus in Mocksville.

April signals the start of strawberry season in North Carolina, and local growers are optimistic about the 2021 season and anticipate a crop that should last through Memorial Day.
