The recent winter weather has led to many complaints being filed with our Section regarding LP-gas companies not delivering fuel as requested or promised. Many consumers have asked if it is OK to request a competitor to come and refill their tank. However, NC General Statute Chapter 119-58(b) prohibits this practice. As a result, if you contact a different company to come and refill your leased tank, they will not be able to do so. You do have the right to choose a different supplier if you are dissatisfied with your service. However, be aware that breaking any existing contract with the current provider can sometimes lead to additional fees and charges. Check details of your contract or agreement prior to agreeing to switch.
Please direct any complaints regarding a companies failure to provide requested or contracted service to the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
