A common question received from consumers is whether it is acceptable to request a competitor refill their LP-gas tank though they have a contract with a different supplier. North Carolina General Statute Chapter 119-58(b) prohibits this practice and if you contact a different company to come and refill your leased tank, they will not be able to do so legally. However, you do have the right to switch suppliers if you are dissatisfied with the service you are being provided. Be aware that breaking any existing contract with the current supplier can result in additional fees and charges. Always check details of your contract or agreement prior to agreeing to switch.
Please direct any complaints regarding a companies failure to provide requested or contracted service to the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
