A North Carolina State Fair record was set and the largest watermelon grownanywhere in the world this year were crowned champions in the specially sanctioned giant pumpkin and watermelon contests on Tuesday. This contest, hosted by The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, is open to competitors from other states. There is a separate contest for the largest North Carolina pumpkins and watermelons, and growers from North Carolina can enter both contests. Fairgoers can see and photograph these giant beauties in the Agri Supply Expo Center at the N.C. State Fair, Oct. 12-22.

The N.C. State Fair is just around the corner, and it will surely be your “Best.Day.EVER!”To prepare for the Fair, this weekend will be the last weekend for the flea market before the fairgrounds closes to the public. The Raleigh Market will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, and will re-open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
The N.C. State Fair loves a deep-fried treat, but there is something abouthomemade food that warms the soul. North Carolinians are truly talented, and the Home ChefChallenge allows chefs to show off their cooking abilities with 11 days of competitions.This year’s competitions include slam-dunk sliders, Bella’s Birthday Bash, appetizers with spirit,banana pudding, layer cakes, cast iron chicken pot pie, make-ahead lunches, carnitas street tacos, kickin’ chicken salad, mac-n-cheese and sausage balls.
RALEIGH - The North Carolina State Fair is approaching quickly and it is a great time to start planning your trip and save some money. Advance sales for tickets, wristbands for rides and ride tickets begins Aug. 15. Advance sales will run through Oct. 12 and are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 6-12. Unlimited ride wristbands are $30 each and can be purchased online. Wristbands are for one day only and vouchers can be redeemed at the Ride Ticket Plazas once the Fair begins. They are not valid for the State Fair Flyer or the State Fair SkyGazer. 
RALEIGH – The N.C. State Fair is looking for 11 farm families to recognize during the fair for its Farm Family of the Day, presented by Tractor Supply Company. Nominations are being accepted through Sept. 15. If you are proud to be an N.C. farmer, work hard to contribute to the state’s No. 1 industry and love both farming and the N.C. State Fair, your farm family could be one of the lucky ones selected. 
North Carolina’s current most famous fowl will be on display during the annual Got to Be NC Festival in Raleigh. The event runs May 19-21 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.  Visitors to the festival can meet Chocolate and Chip, the two North Carolina turkeys pardoned this past Thanksgiving at the White House. The birds, as well as the other animals, will be on display during the festival.
