Representative from the Charlotte - Mecklenburg Food Policy Council will be at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market on Friday, August 7th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. signing up seniors for the NC Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
What is the NC Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program?
The NC Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a summer-only initiative that offers vouchers to eligible, lower-income older adults in participating counties. These vouchers can be used at NC SFMNP‑certified farmers’ markets to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs. The program aims to support healthier nutrition for older adults while boosting sales for local farmers and farmers’ markets. The SFMNP runs each year from July 1 through September 30 and is not available in every North Carolina county.
Who is eligible for the Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program?
To qualify for the NC SFMNP, individuals must meet all three of the following criteria:
- Be at least 60 years old.
- Reside in a county served by a participating local agency (vouchers are not offered statewide).
- Have a household income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (in 2026: $2,461 per month for a one‑person household; $3,337 per month for a two‑person household).
Important Note:
The SFMNP is not an entitlement program, meaning vouchers are not guaranteed. Even if someone meets all eligibility requirements, funding may be limited and not all eligible individuals will receive vouchers.
