Virtual Surveying Fundamentals (Required Pre-Course)
New District staff are invited to participate in a required virtual training designed to introduce the fundamentals of surveying. This live, interactive session will prepare participants for the in-person field training by covering basic concepts, terminology, and workflows.
Participants must complete required self-paced digital pre-course materials prior to attending the live virtual session.

After registering for the field portion, participants will receive a link to join the virtual session.

Hands-On Field Surveying Training for New District Staff
This hands-on training series is designed for new District staff to build practical surveying skills through real-world application. Trainings will be offered in each NCASWCD area (with Areas 3 & 4 combined), and enrollment is limited to approximately 12 participants per area to allow for individualized instruction.
Participants will work directly with DSWC engineers to practice essential field techniques, including:
Using laser levels, rods, and receivers
Setting up and maintaining a survey book
Recording and interpreting field data
Understanding core surveying terminology
What to Expect:
On-site field survey near a District office
Group instruction plus independent practice
Bring your own lunch
No registration fee
By the end of the training, participants will be able to independently set up equipment, collect measurements, calculate slopes, cross sections, and profiles, and run basic survey scenarios with confidence.
