This hands-on training series is designed for new District staff to learn the basics of surveying. One training will be held in each NCASWCD area (Areas 3 & 4 combined), with space limited to approximately 12 participants per area for individualized instruction. Field sessions will be from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key Details:

  • No registration fee
  • Virtual session (required): March 2 — pre-course materials must be completed in advance
  • In-person field session: Survey a site near a district office; bring your lunch
  • Hands-on focus: Using laser levels, rods, receivers, setting up a survey book, recording data, and understanding basic survey terminology
  • Trainers: DSWC engineers
  • Learning goals: Set up equipment, take measurements, calculate slopes, cross sections, and profiles, and run survey scenarios independently

Required Digital Pre-course Material (self-paced) & Virtual Live Training on March 2, 2026, from 9- 12 pm.

After you register for the field portion, a virtual link will be emailed to you for the virtual training on March 2.
