Emergency Programs - Terrorism and Farmers
On the Front Lines of Homeland Security:
Terrorism and North Carolina Farmers
An online guide to protecting America's food supply and your livelihood prepared by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Multi-Hazard Task Force.
As farmers, you control one of our most important resources, our food supply. In North Carolina, agriculture is a billion dollar industry and you are the frontline defense and most important link in protecting your crops, livestock and livelihood against terrorist attacks. Across the nation, farmers and agribusinesses had already stepped up biosecurity measures because of concerns about foreign animal diseases. The September 11, 2001 attacks only reinforced the need to remain diligent in our efforts to protect our national and world food supply. This website offers some security measures that can be implemented on the farm and in businesses. Please review these tips carefully and take appropriate actions in your own work environment.
