Peak peach season in North Carolina is well underway, and many farms are expecting an extended season through October this year. “Due to the warmer winter, many farms didn’t get a freeze after peaches began budding this year,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “That, combined with the sandy soil and good drainage where they grow best means our farmers have plenty of peaches at their farmstands, farmers markets and in the grocery store.”

RALEIGH – To celebrate the bounty of local produce and N.C. food products, the State Farmers Market is hosting its fun-filled Summer Fest July 11 complete with kids’ activities, grilling demonstrations, plus free samples for guests.

This time of year, the variety of N.C. produce is as colorful as confetti, and visitors can come enjoy free watermelon slices, free peach samples, free tomato sandwiches and free corn recipe cards from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The variety of summer produce harvested in North Carolina is abundant.The Summer Fest has something for the whole family! There will be blueberry coloring pages and potato stamps for the kids.
