2016 Got to Be NC Festival looking for vendors, tractors and bluegrass bands

Preparations are under way for the annual Got to Be NC Festival May 20-22 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, with the application period now open for vendors, bluegrass bands and tractor enthusiasts.

One of the unique features of the festival is the display of antique and rare tractors and vintage farm equipment, along with a daily tractor parade. Typically, every color of tractors is represented at the festival. Organizers are accepting applications from tractor clubs and individuals interested in displaying equipment during the event.

Interested food, merchandise and farm equipment vendors also can submit applications until April 1. All spaces will be outside and power is optional.

The annual Bluegrass Band Competition will be held May 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Dorton Arena Outdoor Stage. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three bands, with $500 for first, $250 for second and $125 for third. Additionally, the top band will earn a paid job at the PreddyFest 2016 and a paid weekend job at the 2016 N.C. State Fair.

The competition is open to any amateur North Carolina bluegrass band playing traditional or contemporary bluegrass. Bands must have at least three members and band members cannot compete in more than one band. The competition is limited to the first eight bands to register, so bands are encouraged to apply early.

Application forms for each category can be found online at www.gottobencfestival.com. Links are on the left-hand side of the page.

This family friendly event proudly showcases the best North Carolina food, wines and beers at the Got to Be NC Food, Wine & Beer Homegrown Fare, presented by Lowes Foods. Also, there will be plenty of kids’ activities, lumberjack shows, tractor displays, food, carnival rides and a barbecue cooking contest fundraiser.

Festival admission is free, with pay-as-you-go rides and food, and $3 admission for the Food, Wine and Beer Expo. Gates open Friday from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
