Food Safety Forum on Aug. 26
Make your plans now to attend Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler’s 10th Annual Food Safety Forum Aug. 26 at the Expo Building at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
The program features a presentation by Dr. David Acheson, a former chief medical officer with both USDA and FDA and current chief executive officer of the Acheson Group, on accountability and how the Food Safety Modernization Act will affect international trade.
In addition, there will be a panel discussion with local producers to showcase some of the people producing our food.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with event attendees invited to a private screening of the movie “Farmland” at 1:15 p.m. The movie highlights four young farmers and the triumphs and struggles they face. This is one of just a few times the movie has been shown in the state.
The movie, from Academy Award-winning director James Moll, shows large and small farms, organic and conventional farms, and first-time growers as well as a multi-generational farming operation.
