MSF sets record

The 2013 N.C. Mountain State Fair ended its 10-day run with a new attendance record. A total of 191,596 people came through the gates at the WNC Agricultural Center. The previous record was 187,819, set in 2007.
"We had a great lineup of attractions this year, and it didn't hurt that we had 10 days of beautiful weather," said fair manager Matt Buchanan. "It's nice to set a record, but our goal every year is to make sure everyone who comes to the fair has a good time."
The 2014 N.C. Mountain State Fair will be Sept. 5-14.

New "Flavor, NC" episodes

A new season of "Flavor, NC" is under way on UNC-TV, with 10 new half-hour episodes celebrating N.C. food.
"Flavor, NC" represents the crossroads where the best of homegrown Tar Heel agricultural specialties meet up with the people and places who nurture that bounty. Host Lisa Prince criss-crosses the state getting to know the farmers and food producers who grow, harvest and create our favorite foods.
Season 3 of "Flavor, NC" airs at 10 p.m. on Thursdays through Nov. 21, with encore airings to follow Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.
