On the Horizon

The N.C. Mountain State Fair is just around the corner, coming Sept. 7-16 to the Western N.C. Ag Center in Fletcher. The Mountain State Fair showcases the talent and traditions of Western North Carolina.

Visitors will enjoy music, crafts, clogging, livestock competitions, antique farm equipment, delicious foods, rides, games, free grounds entertainment and more at this annual event.

Advance tickets are on sale at Ingles, the WNC Ag Center and the WNC Farmers Market. Prices for adults are $6 in advance or $7 at the gate; for kids 6-12 years old and seniors 65 and older, prices are $2 in advance and $3 at the gate.

If you are planning to enter a competition at the Mountain State Fair, there is still time to get your items ready. The fair and N.C. Cooperative Extension Service offer a Pony Express service for competitors in 12 outlying counties. Items and entry forms can be dropped off on or before Aug. 20 for competition in the Mountain State Fair.

Items will be returned to local extension offices by Sept. 21. For more about the Pony Express service, call 828-687-1414 or your local extension office.
