The Tarheel Barrel and Roper Association will hold a series of horse shows with classes for all ages at Lockamy Stables and Arena in Benson. Events include pole bending, barrels, goat tying and breakaway roping. Divisions are assisted any age; pee-wee: 8 years and under; youth: 9-12 years old; teen: 13-18 years old and open for any age. Following are upcoming show dates: July 7, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Oct. 6. All shows start at 10 a.m. Cost is $7 per event; association membership is $20. The election of pork producer delegate candidates for the 2013 National Pork Producers (Pork Act) Delegate Body will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, in conjunction with a Board of Directors meeting of the N.C. Pork Council at the NC State University Club, Raleigh. All N.C. pork producers are invited to attend. Any producer, age 18 or older, who is a resident of the state and has paid all assessments due may be considered as a delegate candidate and/or participate in the election. Eligible producers are encouraged to bring a sales receipt with them proving that hogs were sold in their name and the checkoff deducted. For more, contact the N.C. The 9th Annual Equestrian Exchange Tack Consignment Sale will be held Aug. 30- Sept 3 in the Holshouser Building, State Fairgrounds. This is the largest sale of its kind in the state, with the opportunity to buy or sell anything related to equestrian sport. Includes all tack, show clothing, barn supplies, items outfitting rider and horse. All disciplines of riding represented. Consignors earn 75 percent of all sold. Nonprofit equestrian organizations, 4H clubs, therapeutic riding centers and riders are encouraged to participate. Pre-register and new bar code tagging required. Hours to drop off items are Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with 6 to 9 p.m. designated for consignors with large volume items. A special preview night sale will be held Aug. 30, 5 to 9 p.m. Cost is $ 7. Regular hours with free admission are Aug. 31- Sept 2, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sept 3, noon to 6 p.m.; Sept. 4 closed; and Sept. 5, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to pick up unsold items.
