On the Horizon

It is just about time to put this year's winter behind us. No doubt March can still hit us with its share of cold-weather surprises, but it is also the time of year when folks start to see more activity return at farmers markets across the state.

Visitors will find plants, greenhouse vegetables, cool-season lettuces and more at the markets. In addition, a number of special events are planned for March and April.

Here are some of the events on the horizon:

April 16 – WKZL Easter Egg Hunt
May 7 – Triad Chili Cook-off
May 13 – Strawberry Day

State Farmers Market, Raleigh
April 2 – Gourd Day
April 8-10 – Spring Herb Days
April 9 – WPTF Weekend Gardener Show
May 5 – Strawberry Day

WNC Farmers Market, Asheville
April 8 & 9 – 6th Annual BBQ Cook-off & Bluegrass Jam
April 9 & 23 – Master Gardener Plant Clinic
April 22 & 23 – Growing in the Mountains Plant Show
April 29-May 1 – 22nd Annual Spring Herb Festival
