Cover Crop

Summary of changes

  • Changes from incentive practices to regular BMP (Removed contract and payment limits)
  • Planting specifications based on NRCS Cover Crop Specifications Development Tables
  • May be contracted as a single annual practice or for up to three consecutive years
  • Payments must now be made AFTER the cover crop has met its intended purpose
  • Residue and Tillage Management may be contracted on the same acres
  • Cost share rate is 75% or 90% of $50/acre

Purpose

A crop of grasses, legumes, small grain, or brassicas grown primarily for seasonal vegetative protection, erosion control and soil improvement. Cover crops are typically grown for one year or less.
