STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL RECERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Structural pest control certification and licensing is divided into three phases according to the type of work performed. A person may be licensed or certified in any or all phases:

  • Phase P - Household pests (cockroaches, fleas, silverfish, ants, rodents, etc.) by any method other than fumigation.
  • Phase W - Wood-destroying organisms (termites, powderpost beetles, fungi, etc.) by any means other than fumigation.
  • Phase F - Fumigation (to apply pesticides that control pests as a gas). This phase is not required for aerosols, fogs, mists, or ULV/ULD applications.

Certified applicators and licensees are certified for a five-year period. Applicators may be recertified for another five-year period by: 1) earning Continuing Certification Units (CCU's) approved by the Structural Pest Control Division and received by the certified applicator during the five years immediately preceding the expiration date of his/her certification, or 2) reexamination taken between January 01, prior to the expiration of the five-year recertification period, and June 30.

Recertification requirements:
  • recertification in any one phase: 10 CCU's total, five of which must be solely applicable to the phase in which recertification is desired.
  • recertification in any two phases: 15 CCU's total, five of which must be solely applicable to the first phase and five solely applicable to the second phase in which recertification is desired.
  • recertification in all three phases: 20 CCU's total, five of which must be solely applicable to the first phase, five solely applicable to the second phase, and five solely applicable to the third phase in which recertification is desired.
  • licensees and noncommercial certified applicators must earn at least one of the required CCU's in at least four years of the five-year recertification period.
  • commercial certified applicators must earn at least one of the required CCU's in at least three years of the five-year recertification period.
  • CCU's may not be carried forward beyond the five-year recertification period.
  • Licensees holding an inactive license are subject to the same requirements as for recertification above.

A transcript of recertification courses attended is mailed to certified applicators and licensees on or before May 01 of each year with renewal applications.
