Utilizing the NCVDL System

  • In order for the best use to be made of the laboratories and to avoid unnecessary delays, it is recommended that animal owners contact their veterinarian to select the proper specimens or animals to submit for examination. The veterinarian can recommend proper treatment when the laboratory work is completed. It is recommended that the laboratory be called before specimens are taken if there are any questions.
  • Proper sampling is the most important single factor in a laboratory's effectiveness; therefore it is vital that the laboratories receive a representative sampling from sick animals.
  • Laboratory results can be viewed on the laboratory web site as individual tests are completed. After all testing is completed, a final report is tansmitted to the owner and/or the veterinarian.
  • The laboratories are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. On nights, weekends and holidays, various staff members are on call for emergencies.
