The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture publishes annual county statistics for selected crops, livestock, poultry, dairy, and cash receipts. Census of Agriculture statistics are published every five years. Counties with less than 500 acres planted to a crop are not published and are designated by an asterisk (*). Also designated are counties that raise fewer than 1,000 hogs or 500 total cattle, 500 beef or milk cows, 500,000 broilers or turkeys, or 100,000 other chickens.
