Mountain State Fair looking for pageant contestants

Early registration ends Sept. 10

FLETCHER — The N.C. Mountain State Fair is looking for ambassadors to represent the fair at community events throughout Western North Carolina. Winners will be selected from participants in the Miss N.C. Mountain State Fair Pageant. The second-annual pageant will be held on the Got to Be NC Stage during the fair Saturday, Sept. 14.

The pageant consists of two divisions. The older division is open to girls between the ages of 8 and 18. The other division is for those younger than 8 years old on the day of the competition. Each division is further broken down into age groups.

Division winners will be named Miss N.C. Mountain State Fair Queen for their respective division. They will receive a sash, crown, two-tier trophy and title. Winners will participate in local parades, promote the fair throughout the year and assist with the opening ceremony at the 2014 fair. Additional winners will be named for each age group. Prizes also will be awarded for best hair, best dressed, best personality, best eyes and best interview question.

Judging will be based on stage presence, presentation, personality, appearance, speech and overall impression. Pageant attire is country-western themed.

Deadline for entry is Sept. 13, and the cost is $55. Participants can save $5 by registering before Sept. 10. More information about the pageant is available online at www.mountainfair.org/2013/CC.pdf.

The 2013 N.C. Mountain State Fair runs Sept. 6-15 at the WNC Agricultural Center. Advance tickets are on sale at the WNC Agricultural Center, WNC Farmers Market, area Ingles Stores and online at www.mountainfair.org.
