State Farmers Market offers chance to give back
with Week of Giving
RALEIGH — Food drives and festive shopping are part of the events planned at the State Farmers Market to get you in the holiday spirit.
Things kick off Sunday with the Week of Giving, an annual food drive to benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. The market will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations Dec. 9-15. Donations can be dropped off at the giving tree display located in the Market Shoppes.
“We’re so pleased to partner with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle for another year,” said Ronnie Best, State Farmers Market manager. “Last year, visitors donated more than 100 pounds of food, and we are hoping to give even more this year.”
The Week of Giving ends with the Market Shoppes Open House Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the event, shoppers can pick up a variety of N.C. specialty foods and local crafts to complete their holiday gift lists. Vendors will offer N.C. meats and cheeses, seafood, wine, jams and jellies, gift baskets, homemade candles, soaps and more. There also will be free samples and prizes for attendees.
Also on Dec. 15, the market will host WPTF’s “Weekend Gardener Show.” Co-hosts Mike Raley and Anne Clapp will be at the market from 8 to 11 a.m. answering gardening questions during a live broadcast of their show.
The State Farmers Market offers a large selection of N.C. Christmas trees, wreaths and holiday decorations, as well as a great selection of seasonal produce, flowers and plants. Visitors also can enjoy shopping at the Market Shoppes and Market Imports and eating at the State Farmers Market Restaurant and the N.C. Seafood Restaurant.
