State Farmers Market to host Sweet Potato Day Thursday

The State Farmers Market will celebrate North Carolina’s $176 million sweet potato industry with Sweet Potato Day. During the event, visitors can enjoy free sweet potato dessert samples and recipes. Locally grown sweet potatoes also will be available for purchase.

North Carolina leads the nation in sweet potato production, growing nearly half of the nation’s crop. In 2010, N.C. farmers planted 55,000 acres of sweet potatoes across the state, producing a record crop.
