Mountain State Fair Meat Breed Sheep Show winners announced

FLETCHER – Winners from the Meat Breed Sheep shows were recently announced at the N.C. Mountain State Fair. Winners from the show are:

Open Meat Breed Sheep

  • Grand champion ram shown by Larry Durham of Stokes County;
  • Reserve champion ram shown by Gavin Adams of Alexander County;
  • Grand champion and reserve champion ewes shown by Abigail Wilson of Rowan County;
Breed champions           
  • Champion and reserve champion Dorset ewes and rams shown by James Simmons of Adel, Ga.;
  • Champion and reserve champion Hampshire ewes shown by Abigail Wilson of Rowan County;
  • Champion and reserve champion Hampshire rams shown by Larry Durham of Stokes County;
  • Other Purebred Champion Meat Breed ewe shown by Josie Carson Correll of Rowan County;
  • Champion and reserve champion commercial ewes shown by Abigail Wilson of Rowan County;
  • Champion commercial ram shown by Larry Durham of Stokes County;

The Open Meat Breed show was open to anyone in the world. Sheep in this show were shown in classes separated by breed, gender and birth date. The Junior Meat Breed Ewe and Junior Market Lamb shows were open to any North Carolina youth under the age of 21. The Junior Market Lamb show was open to wethers and ewes only.
