In addition, market vendors will have more than 20 varieties of N.C. apples to sample and purchase, as well as apple cider, dried apples and other apple products.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 22
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Farmers Building
State Farmers Market
1201 Agriculture St.
Interstate 40, exit 297, Lake Wheeler Road

Apple Day is sponsored by the N.C. Apple Growers Association, the State Farmers Market Restaurant and the State Farmers Market.

North Carolina is the eighth-largest apple producer in the nation. In 2009, N.C. apple growers produced 120 million pounds of apples. More than 40 apple varieties are grown in North Carolina, but Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome and Stayman varieties make up the majority of apple production in the state.
