Raleigh food business Monday afternoon

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler and Sen. Richard Burr will honor Ford’s Gourmet Foods for achievement in international exports. Burr will present company officials with an Export Achievement Certificate from the U.S. Department of Commerce. |

| WHY: |
Ford’s Gourmet Foods grew out of a family business that has operated in Raleigh since 1946. In 1992, Ford’s began marketing Bone Suckin’ Sauce, a barbecue sauce based on the family recipe. The company made its first international sale in 1994. Today, the company exports its products to more than 50 countries. Since 2003, Ford’s exports have increased by 400 percent, and exports now account for about 30 percent of total revenue. |
