State Farmers Market holds Greenhouse Vegetable Day
Thursday, April 16

WHAT:

Visitors can sample free tomato sandwiches made with greenhouse tomatoes and hydroponic lettuce at the State Farmers Market’s annual Greenhouse Vegetable Day. Shoppers will also find greenhouse recipes and information available.

This event offers visitors an opportunity to become more familiar with the types of greenhouse vegetables grown in the state and to sample some of the delicious commodities available now. Greenhouse farming allows North Carolina farmers to diversify and control their growing environments to produce high-quality crops out of season with little to no waste. The most popular greenhouse vegetables available at the market are tomatoes, cucumbers and hydroponic lettuce. Other crops, such as strawberries, squash and watermelons, are occasionally available in smaller quantities.

WHEN:

Thursday, April 16
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE:

State Farmers Market
1201 Agriculture St.
Exit 297 (Lake Wheeler Road) off Interstate 40

WHO: Greenhouse Vegetable Day is sponsored by the N.C. Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association, the State Farmers Market and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
