Celebrate Gourd Day, Market Shoppes open house
at the State Farmers Market Saturday, April 4
| WHAT: |
The State Farmers Market will host its annual spring Gourd Day on Saturday, April 4, with gourds of nearly every shape and size. Unique gift items will be for sale, including gourd birdhouses, traditional dippers, painted gourds, gourd arts and crafts and more. Visitors can purchase seeds and pick up information on the history and varieties of gourds, and members of the N.C. Gourd Society will be available to answer questions.
The indoor Market Shoppes will also host an open house for visitors with free samples and prizes. Shoppers can taste and purchase a large variety of meats, cheeses, baked goods, ice cream, candy and more. |

Beginning this weekend, the market will have the largest selection of plants and trees in the Triangle. The Farmer’s Building will be full with vendors selling flowers, hanging baskets, vegetable plants, herbs, shrubbery and more.
Fresh greenhouse tomatoes, strawberries, collards and sweet potatoes are also now available at the market, along with pecans, firewood, salsas and honey. The indoor Market Shoppes has a large selection of farm-raised meats, cheeses, wine, jams and jellies, barbeque sauces and baked goods. Visitors to Gourd Day can also visit the State Farmers Market Restaurant, N.C. Seafood Restaurant, Nahunta Pork Center, Super Sod lawn supply center and Market Imports building. |
