Gospel singers and groups needed for
N.C. Mountain State Fair competitions
FLETCHER — There are still a few slots left for junior, youth and group gospel singers in the the N.C. Mountain State Fair Gospel Singing Competitions. The competitions will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, at noon on the Heritage Stage.
This year, soloist winners will also be given the opportunity to perform on Thursday, Sept. 17, before the contemporary Christian music group, 33 Miles, performs in McGough Arena.
“This competition draws a number of outstanding choirs and performers, which makes for an enjoyable afternoon of gospel music,” said Matt Buchanan, N.C. Mountain State Fair manager. “Fairgoers can expect to hear both traditional and contemporary gospel performances.”
In the solo competition, there are junior, youth and adult divisions. First place in each solo division wins $150, second receives $100 and third earns $50. In the group competition, there are youth, adult and choir divisions. First place in each group division takes home $300, second wins $200 and third receives $100.
Performers will be given 10 minutes to perform two songs and are judged on appearance, presentation and quality, originality and professionalism. A professional sound system and technician will be provided.
