Troxler to visit farms, agribusinesses, aquaculture operations
in Eastern N.C. Wednesday-Friday

RALEIGH — Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler will visit farms, agribusinesses and aquaculture operations in Eastern North Carolina Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 19-21.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Troxler will tour farms and agribusinesses in Bertie, Chowan and Gates counties. On Thursday afternoon and Friday, he will visit aquaculture operations in Beaufort, Craven and Pitt counties.

“I’m a firm believer in getting out and listening to farmers and hearing what their concerns are,” Troxler said. “At the same time, I want to hear what’s working for them, too.”

Here’s the schedule:

Aug. 19

  • 2:15 p.m. — Charles Harden’s cucumber farm, Windsor
  • 4 p.m. — Avoca Farms Inc., a sage processor in Merry Hill

Aug. 20

  • 8:45 a.m. — C.A. Perry and Son’s grain handling facility, Tyner
  • 9:30 a.m. — Todd Lewis’ cotton and peanut farm, Hobbsville
  • 11 a.m. — Umphlett Brothers Farm (grain and cotton), Gates
  • 3:30 p.m. — N.C. State University Pamlico Aquaculture Field Lab, Aurora
  • 4:15 p.m. — Carolina Fisheries, Aurora
  • 5 p.m. — Castle Hayne Fisheries, Aurora

Aug. 21

  • 8:20 a.m. — Carolina’s Best Freshwater Prawn Farm, Vanceboro
  • 9:45 a.m. — Carolina Classics Catfish Inc.’s farm, Ayden
  • 11 a.m. — Carolina Classics’ feed mill, Winterville
  • 11:45 a.m. — Carolina Classics’ processing facility, Ayden
