Ag Commissioner Troxler, Kay Carter of Second Harvest Food Bank
to discuss hunger relief Thursday in Charlotte

WHO/WHAT:

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler and Kay Carter, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, will talk about the increased demand for food assistance and how the federal government and the state are helping to meet the need.

WHEN:

Thursday, April 9, 2 p.m.

WHY:

The troubled economy has increased demand for assistance from food banks. The federal stimulus bill includes additional funding for programs that make food available to hunger-relief agencies.

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services distributes food supplied by the federal government to hunger-relief agencies across the state.

OTHER INFO:

The press conference will take place on the warehouse loading dock.

A department tractor-trailer containing food will be unloaded following the press conference.
