The troubled economy has increased demand for assistance from food banks. The federal stimulus bill includes additional funding for programs that make food available to hunger-relief agencies.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services distributes food supplied by the federal government to hunger-relief agencies across the state.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina serves more than 400 nonprofit partner agencies that annually feed thousands of people in need throughout 18 counties.
The press conference will take place on the warehouse loading dock.
Two department tractor-trailers containing food will be unloaded following the press conference.
