N.C. Mountain State Fair wins awards, signs 2010 carnival contract
FLETCHER — The 2009 N.C. Mountain State Fair earned top honors in three categories of competition at the recent International Association of Fairs and Expositions meeting.
The Mountain State Fair competed against fairs of similar size in the U.S. and Canada and earned first place in “Overall Program for Commercial Agricultural Exhibitors,” “New or Unique Strategy to Increase the Number of Competitive Exhibitors or Attract New Competitive Exhibitors,” and “Use of Fair’s Theme Throughout Competitive Exhibits.”
The fair also took second-place awards for “Competitive Exhibit Display Method” and “Competitive Exhibit Display Photo Series.” Four third-place awards were earned in “Fair and Sponsor/Partner Joint Exhibit Program,” “What Was Newly Established or Developed at Your Fair to Promote Agriculture,” “Fair Agricultural Photo” and “Agriculture Photo Series.”
“I’m extremely proud of the accolades and awards won by the N.C. Mountain State Fair in the IAFE competitions,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “We work hard to produce a fair that showcases the agriculture and heritage of Western North Carolina, and we’re honored that our peers feel we’re doing a good job, too.”
The IAFE competitions are judged by fair managers and industry specialists from across North America. The entries are then shared with other fairs as learning tools for overall growth and improvement of the industry.
The fair also recently signed a one-year contract with Drew Expositions of Augusta, Ga., to provide the carnival rides and games for the 2010 fair, which will feature the return of the chairlift for the second straight year.
The 2010 N.C. Mountain State Fair will take place Sept. 10-19 at the WNC Ag Center. More information on the fair is available at www.mountainfair.org.
