N.C. Pecan Growers Association’s meeting, workshop and orchard tour planned for Feb. 14
RALEIGH – The N.C. Pecan Growers Association will host its 15th annual educational workshop and orchard tour on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Duplin County Center in Kenansville. The event is open to anyone involved, or interested, in pecan farming.
The workshop will include presentations from local pecan growers and N.C. State University Cooperative Extension specialists. Monte Nesbitt, a pecan specialist from Auburn University, will be the guest speaker and will talk with growers during the day. Late-season orchard management and the harvesting process will be addressed and is expected to be of special interest following the heavy 2008 pecan crop.
A marketing specialist from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Marketing Division will also be on-hand.
Chemical companies and other suppliers of pecan-related items are invited to join the program and exhibit products. The event will conclude in the orchard of Frank Thomas in Beulaville.
Cost is $15, and includes lunch. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
