State Farmers Market to host Apple Day Thursday, Sept. 25

Mark the first week of fall with a celebration of North Carolina’s apple harvest. Local apple growers will offer their fresh produce along with apple cider, dried apples and apple jam at the annual Apple Day festivities. Visitors can also enjoy free apple dessert samples, recipes and educational information. |

North Carolina’s 2008 apple harvest is expected to yield 165 million bushels, up 175 percent over last year’s freeze-damaged crop. The four major varieties that make up the bulk of North Carolina's production are Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome and Stayman, but more than 40 other varieties are grown on a limited basis.
