North Carolina’s 2008 apple harvest is expected to yield 165 million bushels, up 175 percent over last year’s freeze-damaged crop. The four major varieties that make up the bulk of North Carolina's production are Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome and Stayman, but more than 40 other varieties are grown on a limited basis.

Apple Day is sponsored by the N.C. Apple Growers Association, State Farmers Market Restaurant and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences.
