Ag Commissioner, Soil and Water Foundation to announce arrival
of pasture-renovation drills Thursday in Salisbury
Equipment will go to Anson, Davie, Rowan, Stanly, Union counties
| WHO/WHAT: |
Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler and officials with the N.C. Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation will announce the arrival of five no-till grass drills that will be distributed to the soil and water districts in Anson, Davie, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. Farmers in those districts will be able to rent the drills to re-seed pastures damaged by drought. |
| WHEN: |
Thursday, July 3, 3:30 p.m. |
| WHERE: |
Piedmont Research Station, 8350 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury |
| OTHER INFO: |
In May, the Council of State approved a request from Commissioner Troxler to allocate $370,800 to the Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation to purchase 25 no-till grass drills.
Twenty-five soil and water districts across the state are each receiving a drill. The foundation selected districts based on need and pasture acreage.
The 2007 drought cut hay production by nearly 40 percent and devastated pastures across the state. The no-till drills should help speed up pasture renovation and recovery. |
