RALEIGH – William “Al” Wood of Cary was recently honored as a N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Employee of the Month. Wood was recognized for his positive attitude and professionalism in his job as security officer at the Agriculture Building in downtown Raleigh.
“Al is the first person that greets both employees and visitors to the department, and he is a wonderful ambassador,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “He makes it a point to know employees’ names and greets them personally when they come in. He goes well beyond the requirements of his job in helping visitors and employees.”
Wood graduated from Moncure High School, served two years in the U.S. Army and 14 years with the National Guard Reserve. He worked for the Department of Transportation for 32 years before coming to work part time with NCDA&CS.
Wood and his wife, Jean, have two grown daughters, Melody Haislip and Cheri Watkins.
In his free time, Wood enjoys fishing, camping and gardening.
