Pecan Growers Association hosts Twi-light Orchard Tour
RALEIGH -- The N.C. Pecan Growers Association will host its annual Twi-light Orchard Tour on Tuesday, June 3, at LakeView Pecans in Bailey.
The tour, which begins at 5 p.m., is free and open to anyone interested in pecan production. Various pecan management and production topics will be covered, and there will be plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning and questions. Food will also be provided.
The Nash County orchard has about 250 trees ranging in age from 1 to 25 years old, and includes 18 different pecan varieties. Attendees will see trees in various stages of growth and condition, with some being well groomed and others showing the effects of adverse weather conditions. The operation also includes a nursery where about 6,000 pecan trees are being propagated and grown for sale. Lake View pecans is operated by Bill Bunn, president of the N.C. Pecan Growers Association.
