Operation MoveOut is moving out

HENDERSONVILLE –  After two days of adoption drives and an overwhelming response from the community and animal rescue organizations, Operation MoveOut closed the shelter formerly known as All Creatures Great and Small at close of business today. Individuals and humane organizations adopted 134 dogs and 26 cats since noon Tuesday.

With only seven dogs remaining that are eligible for adoption, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services agreed to transfer the animals to the Henderson County Animal Shelter, where they will be available for adoption. The county will continue to offer the animals for adoption as part of Operation MoveOut, but standard county fees will apply.

“We prefer to vacate this building as quickly as possible, and with so few animals left, we are grateful for the opportunity to move the animals to a much nicer, cleaner facility where they will be well cared for by the county,” said Assistant State Veterinarian Dr. Mary Ann McBride.

Veterinarians identified 13 animals that were too ill or too dangerous to offer for adoption. This was a consensus agreement among the partnering agencies and veterinarians who worked with the animals. “We gave these few animals every reasonable chance, but unfortunately, as we were aware when we started this operation, there were a few that were not eligible for adoption,” said McBride. “We are glad that we were able to provide a few days of great care for these animals and that we were able to give them the dignified end they deserved.”

The NCDA&CS and its partner agencies will be on site tomorrow to clean up and move out.
