RALEIGH - Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler has named Linda Sisk as the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services' Employee of the Month.
Sisk assumes many difficult responsibilities, including managing the department's purchases. This task is a balancing act, because Sisk must keep in mind both the needs of the department as well as the requirements of State Office of Purchase and Contract, an agency built on buying traditional office supplies.
The department requires many unique purchases, including one-of-a-kind equipment and supplies. These items are often needed within strict deadlines, such as at the beginning of spring planting season or by the start of the N.C. State Fair. Sisk works quickly and efficiently within these deadlines while respecting both sides of the purchasing process.
Sisk is working to further improve purchasing efficiency within the department by organizing a comprehensive training session devoted to such practices.
"Linda has the thankless job of needing to be fast and efficient while at the same time complying with the state's purchasing rules," said Commissioner Troxler. "We at the department are proud to have employees like her who step in where needed without complaint."
In addition to purchasing responsibilities, Sisk is the contact for the department's maintenance needs. She also steps in to assist with other tasks during staff shortages, such as sorting and delivering the department's mail.
Sisk lives in Raleigh with her husband, Eddie. She has four children and five grandchildren. She enjoys gardening and making stained glass in her spare time, and has worked in state government for 13 years.
