as part of Blueberry Festival
BURGAW-Shine up the pots and pans, dust off the recipe box and dig out your favorite blueberry recipe for your shot at a cash prize in the N.C. Blueberry Festival Recipe Contest to be held June 22 in Burgaw. Six categories of recipes will vie for a total of $1,200 in cash prizes.
Contestants can submit their tastiest blueberry dishes in the following categories: Salads; Breads and Muffins; Cobblers, Crisps and Puddings; Pies and Pastries; Cakes; and Miscellaneous-Non-alcoholic Beverages, Sauces, Salsa, Soups, Glazes, Jams and Jellies. One entry per person will be allowed in each category, and each recipe must contain at least one cup of North Carolina blueberries.
Entries will be judged on taste/appeal, creativity, general appearance and ease of preparation. First prize winners in each category will earn $100, second will take $75 and third place will earn $25. Ribbons will also be awarded to winners.
Prepared recipes must be accompanied by a typed or neatly printed recipe, and completed entries are due between 8:30 and 10 a.m. at the Ag Building, 801 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. Each contestant's name and contact information should be included in the upper right hand corner of the recipe. Judging will take place between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dishes may be picked up between 3 and 5 p.m. Winners will be announced June 23 at the Blueberry Festival.
The fourth-annual contest is co-sponsored by the Wilmington Star-News, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. Submitted recipes become the property of the Blueberry Festival, the N.C. Blueberry Council, NCDA&CS and the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service.
