Taylor to manage Sen. Bob Martin Eastern Ag Center

RALEIGH – William Durward Taylor Jr. has been named manager of the Sen. Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center in Williamston, effective Dec. 1.

He replaces Brian Dygart, who had managed the facility since it opened in 1998. Taylor comes to the position from the Martin County School System, where he served as food service director since 1998. Prior to that, he worked for more than 11 years as a field representative in the Food Distribution Division at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

“We are proud to welcome Durward back to the NCDA&CS family,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “The Bob Martin Eastern Ag Center is a vital resource for Eastern North Carolina and generates a tremendous amount of revenue for Williamston and Martin County each year. With the opening of the county-funded multi-purpose building last year and the new construction to come, I’m looking forward to watching this facility continue to grow under Durward’s leadership.”

A Williamston resident, Taylor is a graduate of East Carolina University. He will hit the ground running, because the center is already booked for 49 of 52 weekends in 2008. The 168-acre center boasts a 150-foot-by-300-foot show ring in the main arena with seating for almost 2,300; 296 permanent horse stalls; a 17,000 square-foot, climate-controlled meeting facility with banquet seating for up to 700; a 120-foot-by-240-foot dirt-floored building with flexible interior configuration; 100 camper hook-ups and support facilities for equine and general events.

The facility opened in April 1998. The next portion of the center’s master plan will begin construction in 2008, raising the number of permanent stalls to 444. The building of the center has spurred much economic growth in the area, with the construction of new motels and restaurants just southwest of the Williamston city limits.

For more information about the Sen. Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center, visit or call the center at (252) 792-5802. The facility is located at 2900 N.C. Highway 125 in Williamston, just off U.S. Highway 64 at exit 512.
