USDA Under Secretary Thomas Dorr added to agenda
for N.C. Agricultural Development Forum on Feb. 1
RALEIGH - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's rural development chief will speak at the N.C. Agricultural Development Forum at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the State Fairgrounds.
Thomas Dorr, the under secretary for rural development, will talk about renewable fuels during his appearance at the Holshouser Building. Farmers and others interested in U.S. farm policy can hear a variety of perspectives about the 2007 farm bill at the forum. Admission is free.
Dorr is one of several national agriculture leaders scheduled to appear at the forum. Other speakers are U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., ranking minority member of the House Agriculture Committee; agriculture advocate and former Texas congressman Charles Stenholm; Bob Stallman, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation; National Grange President William "Bill" Steel; and Kenneth Auer, president and CEO of The Farm Credit Council.
The forum also will feature panel discussions about potential segments of the next farm bill. Panelists will include congressional staff members and representatives of commodity and farm groups.
The forum is sponsored by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the N.C. Farm Bureau Federation, N.C. State Grange and N.C. Farm Credit Associations.
