Under Secretary Thomas Dorr; U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte of
Virginia, ranking Republican on the House Agriculture Committee; former
U.S. Rep. Charles Stenholm of Texas, who served on the House Agriculture
Committee from 1979-2005; plus the presidents of American Farm Bureau,
The National Grange and The Farm Credit Council. |
| WHEN: |
Thursday,
Feb. 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. |
| WHERE: |
Holshouser
Building, State Fairgrounds, Raleigh |
| WHY: |
The 2007 farm
bill will be a hot topic of discussion in this session of Congress.
There will be considerable debate about whether to simply extend
the farm bill in place since 2002, or to make changes that some
sectors of the agriculture industry say are needed.
The farm bill
debate will be watched closely in North Carolina, where agriculture
and agribusiness make up the largest industry, contributing more
than $68 billion to the economy and employing 17 percent of the
workforce. |
